UPGRADED EVEREST

The Everest is ever-so-close to earning its long-awaited Group 1 status.

With the richest purse in turf racing history and the power to handpick your runner, each year we see the best sprinters of the season go head-to-head for their slice of the pie.

A race that was once highly scrutinized prior to its first running 8 years ago, has turned the tables with the prizemoney on offer and theatrics around gaining a slot, the race has become one of the most earmarked races in Australian weight-for-age racing.

Racing NSW chief Peter V’Landys and Racing Victorias Aaron Morrison have been collaborating to secure the upgrade in status, which is hoped to be confirmed before its run on October 19 at Randwick, along with Victorias All-Star Mile with the Group 1 status to solidify its position amongst racings most prestigious events.

A decision is anticipated shortly with V’Landys and Morrison facing The Asian Pattern Committee’s administrative approval as the final hurdle.
