UFC 311: THE WASHUP

After yet another huge UFC card, the Racing X team is here to give you the Washup following UFC 311.
Following his first-round submission win, lightweight champion Islam Makhachev declared his goals to become a double champ across two divisions, with eyes on either going down to featherweight or up to welterweight. Featherweight champ illia Topuria was quick to call out Makachev since making this statement. There are no confirmed fights between the two yet, but fans will be eagerly awaiting a response from the two! To round out an epic night for Makhachev, Dana White verbally confirmed Islam is now the #1 pound-for-pound champ, which he has dedicated to Jon Jones until that point .
Umar Nurmagomedov went into this bout undefeated but left with more than just the loss. Nurmagomedov lost his most crucial weapon in round 1, breaking his hand somewhere along the lines. Nurmagomedov requires further testing along with x-rays to better understand the full damage done to his hand, but regardless, I think it will be a minute before we see him in the Octagon next.
And to wrap up, Dana White confirmed that Arman Tsarukyan will be waiting a while longer to contest a lightweight title shot. Makhachev was originally set to defend his 155 lb title against Tsarukyan in the UFC 311 main event, but Tsarukyan withdrew hours before weigh-ins due to a back injury. “You miss opportunities sometimes, and he did, so we’ll see how this plays out for him next year. I have no idea if he could’ve competed at UFC 311; only he knows that.” White said. Tsarukyan will now have to fight another contender to re-earn the shot he missed out on due to injury.
