Race Run For Heeney

Swannies favourite Isaac Heeney’s Brownlow fate has been sealed following his appeal to the AFL tribunal on Tuesday evening.

The tribunal handed the star midfielder a one-match ban following a high-contact “swot” during a marking contest with Saints defender Jimmy Webster in Sunday’s clash. Under the AFL’s new rules, brought into effect in the off-season, the MRO graded the incident as intentional, high contact, and low impact, which will see Heeney sidelined for this Saturday’s clash against North Melbourne.

Heeney was being tagged by Webster when the Swans star threw an arm back in an attempt to shake off his opponent. The midfielder moved his right arm and flung it into Webster’s face as he led for the ball in the Swans’ forward 50. Webster went down after the off-the-ball hit. The Saints defender copped a bloody nose from the incident.

The verdict sees Carlton skipper and 2022 Brownlow Medalist Patrick Cripps as the $3.25* favourite for Footy’s most prestigious award. – Bella King *odds correct at time of release.
