CHASING ANOTHER IDOL

They say that weight will stop a train, but it hasn’t managed to stop Stern Idol as he powers towards his fourth jumps victory in the Crisp Steeplechase at Sandown on Sunday.

Taking advantage of the set weights last start in the Mosstrooper, team Maher saw the gelding romp home for a dominant 14-length victory. Having won the last three of his chasing starts consecutively, excluding those he was eased out of for precautionary reasons, Stern Idol is normally toppled in the weights. But racing under the set-weight conditions once again, carrying a “light” 70 kg, the team is hoping for a repeat performance in what assistant trainer Jack Turnbull has confirmed will be their star chasers grand final for the season.
