It’s being touted as the closest finish to a Brownlow count in years, so expect high drama in the Round’s where Patrick Cripps and Nick Daicos are being marked down for the 3 votes, as this is where Charlie will be won and lost.
Patrick Cripps won the 2022 medal in controversial circumstances, with a high hit that initially saw him ruled out, which was later overturned by the appeals board. That hit would absolutely result in 3-4 weeks this year, but fortunately, Cripps has a clear run and as the most consistent star in 2024, he should be wearing the medal again tonight.
The predictor has Cripps receiving 3 votes in eight rounds, so to win this he will need some of the 1s and 2s in the first 10 rounds to be 2s and 3s. His last eight games is where his rivals will need to be close, as this is where he stacks them up big time.
Nick Daicos also has eight 3 vote games if the predictor is on the money, but he starts super slow like the Pies, who were winless after three games and as we know they didn’t hit the heights of last season. Daicos is an umpires magnet however, so even when the Pies lose, he can catch the attention of the men in white and grab votes. If he doesn’t, it’s Cripps by a street.
Outside of these two the usual suspects will lining up to fill the podium and could pull off a surprise, such is their ability to accumulate the ball and in turn votes.
Lachie Neale could be the surprise packet. A previous winner and has had a great season again.
Isaac Heeney will be well in front after 10 rounds, but has the dreaded asterix.
Caleb Serong will win it one day, if the Dockers win enough games.
Zak Butters and The Bont can’t be underestimated, albeit the latter the only one of those that is eligible.
