AUSSIE GLORY

Alexei Popyrin brings Canadian glory back to Australia once again, becoming the first Australian to win a Masters 1000 singles title in over 20 years after toppling Andrey Rublev in the final of the Canadian Open, 6-2, 6-4.

The 25-year-old is the first Australian to win an ATP Masters 1000 title since Lleyton Hewitt won the Indian Wells Open in March 2003.

Popyrin’s win means he will move up to a career-high of No. 23 on the ATP singles rankings and will be seeded at the upcoming US Open, which begins on August 19 in New York.
