One of Chris Waller’s high-profile colts is set to step out for the first time as a three-year-old in Saturday’s Rosebud.
Untapped colt Gatsby’s is expected to stamp his class this weekend after underlining his promise in his initial campaign, scoring an impressive debut win at Canterbury before finishing fourth to Dublin Down in the Pago Pago Stakes (1200 m).
“It all came a bit too soon for him in the autumn, but he’s had a decent break and come back really well,” Waller said.
“He is one of our better three-year-olds, for sure.”
Although there isn’t yet a clear outline for his top colt, Waller will keep him at the shorter distances with eyes potentially on the Gr. 2 Run To The Rose next start, unless the colt heads down a Melbourne spring path.
