Pinstriped heads to Caulfield this Saturday, looking to go one better than last year’s effort in the P.B. Lawrence Stakes.
The gelding ran a strong second behind last year’s weight-for-age super star, Mr. Brightside, and with seeing a much weaker field this year, trainer Enver Jusufovic is confident that this is the strongest Pinstriped we’ve seen.
“He’s a six-year-old now, and he’s matured and really filled out. It’s been almost a faultless prep with a foot abscess; that’s about it. Other than that, he’s coping really well, and he’s nice and forward for a first-up tilt.
“Obviously, he’ll improve on what he does, but he ran second in this race last year, and I’m of the opinion he’s a lot stronger this time in.”
“It’s a Group 2, I know it’s a long spring, but you certainly have them fit enough to be very hard to beat,” Jusufovic said.
“The programming is a lot better this year,” he said.
“I think the big one will probably be the Toorak, but he can pretty much race every two weeks if I choose to. It all depends on how he goes each run and how he pulls up.
“You’ve got the Memsie, and obviously there’ll be good horses resuming in that, Brightside and Pride of Jenni, but you can take the other option, the Makybe Diva, in a month’s time and go to the Feehan and all that.”.
